Most often I use them to combine abilities that aren't on the global cooldown + one ability that is, such as my dps potion + ability off the global cooldown + ability on the global cooldown. Using WoW as an example since that's where I learned most of what I know of them, macros do not let me combine my rotation into one button pressed over and over. Macros have to follow the rules and guidelines BioWare sets forth. I'm noticing many of you are either assuming Rift macros are the norm or don't understand what they are and how they work but are against them, let me enlighten you.
